What is Wymzya Fe birth control?

Wymzya Fe is a chewable combined birth control pill. It contains two hormones, norethindrone acetate and ethinyl estradiol, which work together to prevent pregnancy. The pills are spearmint-flavored and easy to take if you don’t like swallowing tablets.

It also includes seven iron pills for your inactive pills week. These don’t prevent pregnancy, but instead help supplement the iron lost during your monthly bleed.

How does Wymzya Fe work for birth control?

The two hormones in Wymzya Fe stop your ovaries from releasing eggs. They also thicken the cervical mucus to block sperm and thin the uterine lining to make it harder for a fertilized egg to implant. These effects work together to make pregnancy very unlikely (it’s 99% effective when used perfectly).

Is Wymzya Fe generic?

Wymzya Fe is a branded version of Femcon Fe, which is now discontinued. It has the same hormones in the same strengths, just with different packaging and made by a different company.

There are other birth control pills that have the same hormone dosage but are not chewable, or do not come with an iron supplement in the inactive pills.

What doses of Wymzya Fe are there?

Each active tablet contains 0.4 mg of norethindrone acetate and 0.035 mg of ethinyl estradiol. The seven inactive tablets contain 75 mg of ferrous fumarate, a type of iron. This small dose isn’t enough to treat iron deficiency, but it may help replace some iron lost during your period.

How effective is Wymzya Fe?

When taken at the same time every day, Wymzya Fe is over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy.^[1] If you miss pills or take them late, its effectiveness drops slightly, to about 93%.

How to take Wymzya Fe

Take one pill every day at the same time, following the order in the pack. Chew each tablet before swallowing, with water. If you prefer, you can also swallow the tablet whole.

You’ll take 21 days of active pills, followed by 7 days of iron-only pills. You’ll usually get a withdrawal bleed during this week, then move straight on to your next pack.

What should I do if I miss a Wymzya Fe pill?

If you miss a white active pill, take it as soon as you remember, even if that means taking two in one day. Then carry on as normal.

If you miss two active pills in Week 1 or 2, take two pills on the day you remember and two the next day. Use condoms for the next seven days.

If you miss two or more active pills in Week 3, or three or more pills at any point, keep taking one pill daily until Sunday. Then throw the pack away and start a new one. If you’re not a Sunday Starter, start a new pack right away. Use condoms for a week either way.
