What is the Isibloom pill?
Isibloom is a combined pill containing two hormones that help to stop you getting pregnant. The hormones are synthetic versions of the naturally occurring estrogen and progesterone, which control the monthly menstrual cycle.
What is Isibloom used for?
Isibloom is a contraceptive pill. Taken perfectly, it’s over 99% effective at stopping pregnancy. It’s a reliable form of contraception that’s easily reversible. So if you decide you want to try for a baby, all you need to do is stop taking it.
Some women find that taking combined pills like Isibloom can help with menstrual symptoms like heavy bleeding or period pain, and alleviate acne. [1]
How does Isibloom work?
Combined contraceptive pills work in three separate ways to provide a very high level of protection against pregnancy. This way, if one doesn’t work, there’s a failsafe.
Firstly, it prevents an egg from being released by tricking the body into thinking it has already ovulated. With no egg available to be fertilized, it’s impossible to get pregnant. In the unlikely event that this fails and an egg is produced, it thickens the fluid at the entrance of the womb, making it difficult for sperm to reach an egg. It also makes the lining of the womb less hospitable for an egg, so it can’t implant itself there.
Is Isibloom a low dose birth control?
No, Isibloom contains a standard dose of estrogen, that’s 30mcg (micrograms) of ethinyl estradiol. Low dose birth control options usually have 20mcg of estrogen. Talk to your doctor if you think you need a low dose combined pill (for instance if you experience side effects like mood swings or nausea) and they can recommend a suitable option.
How effective is Isibloom?
The combination of active ingredients that’s found in Isibloom was found to be over 99% effective,[2] which means that out of 100 women taking the pill over the course of a year, less than one will get pregnant.
Most people make the odd error, such as a late or forgotten pill. This can reduce protection to around 91%, which means less than one in ten women will become pregnant within a year.[3]
So the more closely you follow the daily routine, the more effective it will be.
Can you take Isibloom for acne?
While Isibloom is not prescribed to treat acne, due to the hormonal effects of the treatment, Isibloom can also be helpful in moderate or severe cases. While it does not always have a beneficial effect on the condition, and in some cases can make it worse, it has been shown to significantly improve it for many women.[1]
