What is Heather?
Heather is a progestin-only birth control pill, also known as a mini-pill. You’ll take it every day without a break to reduce menstrual bleeding (or stop it all together). This should help relieve endometriosis symptoms like painful periods or heavy bleeding.
How does Heather work?
Heather contains a man-made version of the natural sex hormone progesterone, which is known as a progestin. This limits the growth of your uterine lining – including the excess endometrial tissue that characterizes endometriosis.
This should help to reduce menstrual bleeding, relieve the pain and discomfort caused by endometriosis, and help stop new endometrial tissue from forming outside of the uterus.[1]
How do Heather doses work?
Heather comes in one dose, a 0.35 mg tablet. You’ll take this tablet around the same time every day without breaks to manage your endometriosis symptoms.
What is Heather’s active ingredient?
Heather’s active ingredient is called norethindrone (also known as norethisterone). It’s licensed as a progestin-only birth control pill that prevents pregnancy by stopping ovulation in about half of menstrual cycles, thickening your cervical mucus to stop sperm passing through, and thinning your uterine lining to prevent an egg implanting.
Because norethindrone helps to thin your uterine lining, it can also relieve pain and heavy menstrual bleeding associated with endometriosis.
