What is Xhance?
Xhance is a corticosteroid nasal spray that contains fluticasone propionate, that reduces inflammation in your nasal passages and sinuses. Itโs prescribed to treat chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps, which can cause blocked sinuses, facial pain, and loss of smell.
Unlike standard sprays, Xhance uses a special exhalation delivery system (EDS); You blow gently into the mouthpiece while using the spray, which helps the medicine reach deeper into your nasal and sinus cavities.
How does Xhance work for sinusitis?
Xhance contains fluticasone, a corticosteroid that calms the inflammation in your sinus lining. When you use it, the medicine targets the swollen tissues inside your nose and sinuses, lowering the amount of mucus you produce, and opening blocked airways so you can breathe more easily.[1]
Xhance also has a special exhalation delivery system that can make it more effective than regular nasal sprays. By breathing out into the device as you use the spray, you help move the medicine upward and backward into your sinuses โ, places ordinary sprays struggle to reach.[2]
Will I get side effects using Xhance?
Xhance, like all medicines, can cause side effects in some people.
The most common ones are:
- Nosebleeds
- Sore throat or irritation
- Headache
- Nasal burning or dryness
Rarely, corticosteroids can be absorbed into your bloodstream and affect your hormones, especially if used for long periods or at high doses.[1] If you notice vision changes, severe nosebleeds, or experience persistent irritation, talk to your doctor.
What doses of Xhance are there?
Xhance comes in a 93 microgram per spray strength. The usual dose for adults is one or two sprays per nostril twice a day, but it can vary depending on your symptoms and your doctorโs instructions.
