What is Fluticasone?
Fluticasone is a corticosteroid nasal spray thatโs used to treat sinusitis. Youโll normally use 1-2 sprays per nostril once or twice a day (depending on the severity and persistence of your sinusitis) to relieve symptoms.
How does Fluticasone work?
Fluticasone lowers the production of inflammatory cells in your nose. These inflammatory cells produce proteins called cytokines, which are messengers that cause inflammation in infected areas of the body. By reducing the number of inflammatory cells, and thus cytokines, fluticasone should help reduce inflammation in your nose. This should help relieve sinus pressure and pain caused by sinusitis.[1]
Fluticasone can also reduce mucus gland secretions, which helps clear congestion and allow you to breathe more easily.[1] It also targets the beta-2 receptors on the smooth muscle in your airways. This helps to relax the smooth muscle around your airways, allowing air to pass through more easily.[2]
How do Fluticasone doses work?
Fluticasone nasal spray comes in one dosage for sinusitis. It delivers 50 mcg of fluticasone per spray.
What is the active ingredient in Fluticasone?
Fluticasone is a generic medication thatโs named after its active ingredient: fluticasone. Itโs a type of corticosteroid that targets and relieves inflammation. While they might sound similar, itโs a completely different kind of drug to anabolic steroids.
