Prebiotics
Definition:
Prebiotics are a type of fibre that feed the good bacteria in your gut. They’re found in a range of fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
Prebiotics aren’t digested by your body, and instead are fermented by the bacteria in your gut. This fermentation process produces short-chain fatty acids, which can be good for your health. [1]
Prebiotics are often confused with probiotics, but they’re not the same thing. Probiotics are live bacteria found in fermented foods and supplements. Whereas prebiotics feed the bacteria that already live in your gut.
