Plateau
Definition:
A weight-loss plateau is a period of time when your weight loss stalls, even though you’re sticking to your diet and exercise routine. It’s a normal part of the weight loss process, and although it can be frustrating, it doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong.
There are a few reasons why plateaus might happen, so how you overcome yours might depend on what’s causing it. One theory is that your body adapts to your calorie deficit and starts to burn fewer calories at rest. Another is that you may be losing muscle mass along with fat, which can also slow down your metabolism.[1] Muscle burns more calories than fat, so it’s often thought that the more muscle you have, the more calories you’ll burn overall.
