Micronutrient
Definition:
Micronutrients are essential nutrients that your body needs in small amounts. They’re important for proper growth, development and overall health. Even though we only need small amounts of them, they play a crucial role in supporting a range of bodily processes and preventing deficiencies that can lead to health problems.
There are two main types of micronutrients: vitamins and minerals.
Vitamins are organic compounds that help your body convert food into energy, support your immune system, and promote cell growth and repair.
Minerals are inorganic elements needed for healthy bones, teeth, muscles, nerves, and skin.
Eating a varied, balanced and healthy diet is the best way to get the micronutrients your body needs, but you can get many of them in supplements, too.
