Lipids
Definition:
Lipids are a broad group of molecules that are essential for life. They’re fatty or waxy substances that are found in all living cells.
Their functions include: [1]
- Storing energy
- Building and maintaining cell membranes
- Insulating organs
- Producing hormones
- Aiding the absorption of vitamins
Lipids are an essential part of a healthy diet. However, it’s important to have them in moderation, as too much of some kinds of lipids can be bad for you. High levels of LDL cholesterol, for example, can increase your risk of heart disease.
