Leptin
Definition:
Leptin is a hormone that’s directly related to your body fat levels. So the higher your body fat percentage, the higher your leptin levels.[1] Normally, leptin helps to regulate your appetite over the long term, suppressing appetite when you have enough fat stores, and increasing your appetite when your fat stores are lower.
Because individuals with obesity tend to have high levels of leptin, they can develop leptin resistance. This means their appetite is poorly regulated, leading to feeling more hungry, more often. [2]
