Insulin

Definition:

Insulin is a vital hormone produced by your pancreas, an organ located behind your stomach. It acts like a key that unlocks the doors of your cells, allowing glucose (sugar) from your bloodstream to enter. Glucose is the primary source of energy for your body’s cells.

Without insulin, glucose would build up in your blood instead of being absorbed by your cells. This can lead to high blood sugar levels, a condition known as hyperglycaemia, which happens in people with diabetes.
