Inflammation

Definition:

Inflammation is your body’s natural response to injury or infection. It’s a complex process that involves your immune system sending white blood cells and other substances to the affected area. These substances help to fight off infection and promote healing.

The typical signs of inflammation are pain, redness, heat, swelling, and loss of function.

Acute inflammation is short-term inflammation that tends to resolve on its own after a few days. Chronic inflammation, on the other hand, is long-term, meaning it can last up to months or years. It can be caused by a few factors like autoimmune conditions, infections, and exposure to toxins.

Acute inflammation is a normal and healthy part of the healing process. But chronic inflammation can damage healthy parts of your body and contribute to problems like heart disease, stroke, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease. [1]
