Glucagon

Definition:

Glucagon is a hormone produced by your pancreas when your blood sugar levels are low. It works by releasing a form of stored glucose (called glycogen) from your liver or muscles into your bloodstream so it can be used as energy.

This means that, alongside insulin, glucagon is a key hormone for blood sugar regulation. People with diabetes may need to occasionally inject or inhale glucagon in emergency situations to treat severe hypoglycemia.
