Binge eating
Definition:
Binge eating is characterised by recurrent episodes of eating unusually large amounts of food in a short period of time, often accompanied by a feeling of loss of control. [1]
Binge eating is different from occasional overeating. People who binge eat typically eat until they feel uncomfortably full, and may feel ashamed or guilty afterward.
If you think you or someone you know may be struggling with binge eating, it’s important to seek professional help. A mental health professional can help you develop healthy coping mechanisms for dealing with stress and other emotions that may trigger binge eating.
